Iron Fitting
Why should you get custom fit clubs?
#1 – Custom clubs do not cost more than clubs bought off the rack!
#2 – 100% of all golfers need custom specifications in one of the areas listed below.
#3 – Custom fitting of golf clubs Will make a difference in your game. It’s not all the archer, the arrow counts.
#4 – Custom clubs have a turnaround time of 7-10 business days.
Following are the steps involved in a custom Iron fitting process.
Step #1 – Oral interview. This would provide the fitter with information about your shot tendencies, practice habits and the goals you have for your golf game. It always helps us if you include why you want to get fit…For example, you want to increase your distance, prevent a certain curve on the ball or even promote the curve of the ball in your direction of choice.
Step #2 – Fitting for the correct length of your irons. Playing clubs with the incorrect length promotes more off center hits resulting in a significant loss of distance. Test results have proven that when hitting a six iron, a 1 inch off center hit costs you about an 8% loss of distance.
Step #3 – Fitting for the correct lie angle. Playing with the incorrect lie angle will cause tremendous direction control problems or changes in technique to compensate for the improperly fit golf club. Test results have shown us that for each 2 degrees of incorrect lie angle the ball will be 20 feet off line!
Step #4 – Fitting for shafts. 3 factors are looked at in determining your shaft.
Club Head Speed
The faster you swing a club the heavier and firmer shaft you might need to optimize your ball flight, distance and control.
Shaft Load
The rhythm and tempo of your golf swing contributes to the amount of flex you impart on the shaft at the start of your downswing. Having the correct amout of shaft load affects both distance and control.
Shaft Feel
Players have a huge say in how the shaft feels (heavy, light, too stiff, loose in the tip, etc) and the ball flight it produces. We have a wide variety of shafts that can still optimize ball flight but “feel” much better to the player.
Step #5 – Grip size and material. Grip size can be measured, but it also dependent on player feedback as to which size feels the best. The material of the grip is strictly based on player preference (rubber, cord, ½ cord, and multi-compound)
Step # 6 – Set configuration. This is huge a part of the fitting process and very important in getting you ONLY the clubs you need. Most of today’s golfers are using hybrids instead of long irons due to their increased forgiveness and shot making ability. We make sure that we have the proper “gapping” between fairway woods, hybrids, and irons. This process very closely ties in with our wedge fitting because of PW loft as well as keeping within the 14 club limit. Everyone has different needs! A limited number of options are available here…And we will recommend whatever fits your game the best.
Come let us conduct your next fitting when you buy clubs. We care about you having the correct club for you in your hands.
We will NEVER let you buy something that doesn’t fit you.
